The Class Doorman

Never need a key during the school day again!

Welcome to my page about my product "The Class Doorman" sold at www.etsy.com/shop/Teacheropolis
This one has been used for a full school year!  You can't tell!
After news of yet another school shooting my first grade son came up with the idea that doors should always be locked, because in an emergency a key would be difficult to use.  I know, from the mouth of babes!  At the end of the school day my son is in my classroom and before we go home, I look around the my class trying to think of a way to make him feel a little safer.  I look right at my student table with a heavy piece of vinyl that I use as a table cloth.  By cutting a piece with two holes to fit around my door knobs I discovered that sure enough it keeps my door from locking.  My husband thought I was crazy when I came home with what looked like a bad super hero mask saying I have an idea that will help teachers.  The Class Doorman has evolved into being more than a bad super hero mask.  My prototype could only fit around handles, but with Velcro straps it can now easily be taken on and off handles and knobs in seconds.  An extra piece of material is attached to the back to sustain durability and make sure that the door latch does not lock through it.

I teach entrepreneurship and production in my 4th grade Social Studies class.  It's been wonderful to share with them how an idea can evolve into a product.  With today's technology students can see that anything is possible, even at their age.  I thank my students, fellow teachers at my school, and some of my very first orders that helped me work the bugs out to come up with the product I sell today.  Each product that I sell has been tested on doors in my school and have been used daily with almost no wear for over a year.  The "dressed up" Doormen from my store have truly amazed me.  I waited to list these in my store, because I really thought the sparkles where the door latch hits would wear quickly, but in a year's use they still look new!  I actually used the zebra print from a teacher's door that had used it heavily all year for pictures for my Etsy listing, because I didn't have a model of it with me.  You can't tell it's been used everyday for a year!  Look for yourself.
